Cut the Poison, Save Your Liver: A Doctor’s Blunt Advice

In a refreshingly blunt piece of medical advice, a Harvard-trained gastroenterologist has told the public to “cut the poison” from their diets to save their livers. He specifically identifies three “poisons” that are fueling the fatty liver epidemic. The first is what he calls “liquid poison”—sugary drinks. He advises that sodas and juices should be treated as toxins due to their direct role in creating fat deposits in the liver. The second poison is the unhealthy fat found in deep-fried foods. He warns that trans fats and high levels of saturated fats are inflammatory and act as a poison to liver cells over time. The third poison is the cocktail of unhealthy ingredients in ultra-processed foods. He explains that the combination of unhealthy fats, sugars, and artificial chemicals in items like chips and hot dogs is toxic to the liver’s metabolic processes. This doctor’s direct and memorable advice makes the path to a healthier liver unmistakably clear.
