Erdoğan, Sharif Discuss Tech Innovations to Boost Türkiye-Pakistan Collaboration

In Istanbul, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in high-level discussions aimed at expanding strategic partnerships in various sectors, including trade, defense, energy, and infrastructure. The leaders convened at Vahdettin Palace, followed by delegation-level meetings that involved senior officials from both nations. Their talks centered on enhancing bilateral trade, increasing investment, boosting defense collaboration, improving digital connectivity, and aligning efforts on regional security matters concerning the Middle East, Afghanistan, and counter-terrorism.

Both countries reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening economic relations, with current bilateral trade figures hovering between $1.2 and $1.35 billion. This figure is significantly below the long-term goal of reaching $5 billion. Moreover, they explored potential avenues for expanding Turkish investments in Pakistan’s key sectors like energy, agriculture, transport, and technology.

Defense cooperation was a significant focus of their dialogue. The discussions covered a variety of topics, including military equipment, joint training exercises, intelligence sharing, and potential future co-production initiatives. These discussions underscored the ongoing role of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in fostering collaboration across multiple domains.

As the meeting progressed, both leaders were anticipated to outline the outcomes of their discussions and any new agreements in a joint press conference. This announcement is expected to highlight the mutual commitment to deepening ties and exploring new opportunities for cooperation between Turkey and Pakistan.
