Oman Highlights Tech Innovations for Maritime Security at ASEAN Conference

During a ministerial meeting in Manila, Philippines, which commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), Oman underscored its dedication to maritime security and the freedom of navigation. The nation also emphasized its intent to bolster partnerships with Southeast Asian countries. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister, highlighted the indispensable role of international law, mutual respect, and peaceful cooperation in fostering both regional and global stability.

Minister Al Busaidi stressed the significance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving disputes and building trust among nations. He reiterated the necessity of keeping vital international waterways, such as the Strait of Hormuz, open and secure for global navigation and trade. Furthermore, he pointed to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as a fundamental framework for ensuring maritime security and safeguarding global trade, food security, and energy supplies.

Oman called for enhanced cooperation among coastal states and users of international shipping routes, noting the Strait of Malacca and Singapore as exemplary models of successful collaborative maritime security efforts. This commitment to maritime partnerships aligns with Oman’s broader intent to strengthen ties with ASEAN member states, emphasizing the shared benefits of such cooperation for regional and international stability.

The meeting served as a platform for Oman to reaffirm its commitment to fostering a secure maritime environment, vital for the prosperity of global trade and the stability of international relations. By advocating for reinforced partnerships and adherence to internationally recognized maritime laws, Oman aims to contribute to a stable and secure global maritime framework.
