Iran Criticizes Qatar’s Tech Use in Probe; Doha Denies Delay Claims

Iran has leveled accusations against Qatar, claiming it is thwarting investigations into the whereabouts of three Iranian pilots who disappeared amid recent hostilities. Tehran has pointed to the prolonged wait for its Air Force expert team to receive clearance to travel to Qatar for the inquiry. Mohammad Bagherzadeh, a representative of the Iranian armed forces, urged Qatar to permit the visit and called upon the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene.

Qatar has firmly denied these allegations. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari refuted claims of detaining the Iranian pilots, explaining that Qatar had engaged with the pilots following an alleged airspace violation. Despite attempts to establish communication, Qatar resorted to defensive actions when no response was received. Additionally, Qatari search and rescue teams undertook efforts to locate the pilots and any remains, coordinating with Iran for the repatriation of one pilot’s body that was recovered.

Iran previously reported the recovery of the remains of pilot Majid Kazemi, who was killed during an offensive involving the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base situated in Qatar. The discord between Iran and Qatar comes amid ongoing regional tensions involving the United States and other nations, following conflict escalation earlier in the year.

Qatar stated that in April, it extended an invitation to Iranian authorities to dispatch a team to receive details about the conducted search and rescue operations. However, according to Qatar, Iran has yet to respond to this invitation. The situation underscores the diplomatic challenges in the region, with Qatar playing a crucial role in mediating and reducing tensions, as well as facilitating dialogue among the involved parties.
