UAE Highlights Technological Defenses Against Failed Iranian Attacks on Gulf, Jordan

Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser from the United Arab Emirates, has criticized Iran’s recent actions targeting Gulf states and Jordan, labeling them ineffective. He called for more realistic and sustainable political solutions to resolve the ongoing regional conflict. Highlighting the unsustainability of the current “neither war nor peace” situation, Gargash emphasized the urgent need to reduce tensions and restore normal navigation through the critical Strait of Hormuz. His statements followed a surge in Iranian attacks on regional targets amidst escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

The UAE Ministry of Defence announced on August 31 that it had intercepted an Iranian drone over its territorial waters. Additionally, the ministry dismissed reports from Iranian media claiming that missiles had struck Al Minhad Air Base near Dubai, asserting that the facility remained in a high state of readiness. These developments underscore the heightened security concerns in the region and the UAE’s proactive measures to ensure its territorial integrity.

Gargash stressed that any enduring resolution to the conflict must address both its political and economic impacts. He criticized a previous memorandum of understanding for lacking a viable and acceptable roadmap to resolve the crisis. His remarks highlight the need for a comprehensive approach that can address the underlying issues fueling the conflict, rather than temporary fixes.

The Strait of Hormuz is a focal point in this dispute, with ongoing disruptions to shipping posing significant risks to regional economies and global energy markets. The latest series of attacks and counterattacks have further strained efforts to re-establish maritime traffic and revive diplomatic negotiations. Gargash’s remarks reflect the UAE’s commitment to de-escalation and the pursuit of a diplomatic framework capable of restoring stability and ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels in the region.
