Advanced Tech in Sharjah-Oman Corridor Cuts Cargo Transit to 35 Days

In a significant logistical advancement, Sharjah has introduced an integrated logistics corridor with Oman, dramatically cutting cargo transit times from nearly three months to just 35 days. This initiative aims to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce transportation costs, and bolster trade connections between the UAE, Oman, and broader regional markets. The corridor links Sharjah with Oman’s key ports, including Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah, via the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings. As operations evolve, authorities anticipate even shorter transit durations.

To promote the use of this corridor, Sharjah has implemented toll exemptions for cargo trucks utilizing designated routes from Oman. The benefits extend to expedited customs clearance, streamlined cargo movement, and the flexibility for businesses to handle customs procedures at inland container terminals rather than at border crossings. Officials project that logistics expenses could decrease by approximately 15%, contingent on the type of cargo and transportation needs. This development is expected to particularly favor manufacturers by expediting the flow of raw materials and finished goods.

The operationalization of the corridor on May 14 aligns with Sharjah’s strategic goal to reinforce its status as a regional logistics and manufacturing hub. With over 3,000 factories contributing about a quarter of the emirate’s GDP, the enhanced trade route is poised to boost exports and draw international investors targeting markets in Africa, India, and Asia. The corridor not only facilitates cargo movement in both directions but also benefits from coordinated customs processes, real-time data exchange, and dedicated fast-track shipment lanes.

This project underscores Sharjah’s commitment to strengthening its economic infrastructure and enhancing its appeal to global trade partners. By significantly reducing transit times and costs, the corridor serves as a catalyst for increased economic activity and international collaboration. As Sharjah continues to develop this logistics corridor, it positions itself as a pivotal player in the regional and global logistics landscape, offering a compelling proposition for businesses looking to expand their market reach.
