Oman and Pakistan have taken significant steps to enhance their bilateral relations by signing a visa exemption agreement and four memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These agreements, signed during an official visit by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi to Islamabad, aim to bolster cooperation in technology, telecommunications, broadcasting, information exchange, and archival services.
The signing ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif witnessing the event. Representing their respective countries, Al Busaidi signed on behalf of Oman, while Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar signed for Pakistan. In addition to the agreements, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral relations by signing the minutes of the eighth session of their Joint Ministerial Committee.
The visa exemption agreement specifically facilitates travel for holders of diplomatic, special, service, and official passports, making it easier for eligible officials from both countries to travel between Oman and Pakistan. This move is seen as a step towards strengthening institutional ties and improving coordination between government agencies of the two nations.
The four MoUs focus on key areas including telecommunications and information technology, radio and television broadcasting, the exchange of news and information, and collaboration between national archives. These agreements aim to facilitate the exchange of technical expertise and information, thereby enhancing the cooperative framework between the two countries.
Both Oman and Pakistan view these agreements as a pivotal step in expanding their relations and developing partnerships across sectors of mutual interest. The focus on technology and information exchange reflects a shared interest in advancing these fields for mutual benefit, thereby fostering a deeper connection between the two countries.
