Tech tracks 50.4°C in Mahout, Jabal Shams cools to 11.1°C.

In a striking display of climate extremes, Oman experienced its hottest recorded temperature in June 2026, with Mahout reaching a scorching 50.4°C. This new high was announced in the latest monthly weather statistics released by the Civil Aviation Authority. While Mahout faced intense heat, Jabal Shams, known for its cooler climate, registered the country’s lowest temperature at 11.1°C, illustrating the diverse weather patterns across the nation.

Other regions in Oman also endured significant heat, with Barka, Damaa and Al Tayeen, and Fahud each recording temperatures of 49.4°C. Slightly cooler, yet still sweltering, was Qarn Al Alam, which experienced 48.4°C. These figures underscore the widespread impact of the summer heatwave that gripped much of the country during the month.

Conversely, several areas maintained cooler temperatures. Saiq recorded a temperature of 16.8°C, while Al Ashkharah, Jabal Harem, and Dhalkut noted 18.0°C, 18.2°C, and 20.4°C respectively. These cooler temperatures provide a stark contrast to the extreme heat experienced in other parts of Oman.

Rainfall during June was predominantly concentrated in the Dhofar region and some mountainous areas. Dhalkut received the highest precipitation, measuring 55 mm, followed by Jabal Shams with 18.4 mm. Other areas like Saiq, Ibra, and Qayroun Hairiti also saw rainfall, recording 16.6 mm, 12.2 mm, and 11.2 mm respectively. These rainfall figures highlight the localized nature of precipitation during this period.

The weather data from June 2026 paints a picture of a country experiencing significant climatic contrasts. While much of Oman endured extreme summer heat, certain regions, particularly in Dhofar and the mountains, benefitted from relatively cooler temperatures and localized rainfall. This duality in weather conditions underscores the diverse and dynamic climate characterizing Oman.
